Jane Kamabu: BSW, RSW


Jane is a Registered Social Worker with extensive experience providing counselling and referral services to Individuals, Youth and Families from a holistic approach. Jane handles her clients with deep compassion and empathy, believing that every individual or family that present themselves in therapy have some innate capacity for change. Without minimizing the presenting situation, Jane works from a strengths and empowerment perspective, guiding her clients on an exploration journey for that inner strength, those positive qualities and gifts that every individual brings to the therapy session. Along with the innate strengths, Jane helps individuals, families or couples to explore external resources that may be fostered and harnessed in order to bring positive changes to the presenting problem. Overall, Jane’s clients leave the counselling session feeling respected, affirmed and empowered through her warmth and resourcefulness.


Qualifications;


Jane is a Registered Social Worker with the Manitoba College of Social Workers and has been licensed to provide therapy since April 2015. Having worked extensively with Immigrant Families in various capacities, Jane is an expert on immigration issues particularly on healthy coping strategies for successive integration to the Canadian society. Jane has also worked extensively with Child and Family Services and is well versed with the Inter-generational trauma that most First Nations’ families experience due to the Residential Schools history, the Sixties’ Scoop and currently the Child and Family Services system that seems not to adequately fulfill its mandate to protect children from further trauma. Besides academic qualifications, Jane has certificates on

Theoretical perspectives.

 

Jane combines the Strength and Empowerment perspective with the Solution-Focused Theory. She is also conversant with the Narrative theory approach to therapy, the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cultural theories. Using these diverse approaches, Jane collaborates with her clients to set achievable goals and supports them to achieve measurable outcomes.
